The Trinity | 1 Peter 1: 1-2 | August 09, 2026

Aug 9, 2026    Pastor Ashley Spence

This sermon on the Trinity builds on the major themes of 1 Peter—security of salvation, holy living, suffering and persecution, and theology—by emphasizing the importance of both head knowledge and heart knowledge in knowing God. Beginning with 1 Peter 1:1–2, it explains the identity of believers as God’s chosen people and exiles whose ultimate citizenship is in God’s eternal kingdom, giving them hope and perspective even when they experience suffering in the world. The sermon then explores the Trinity as one God revealed through three distinct persons: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father is presented as the loving God who chooses and draws His people into relationship; Jesus is the eternal King and suffering servant whose blood establishes the New Covenant and provides complete cleansing; and the Holy Spirit is God’s presence within believers, continuing the work of sanctification and conforming them to Christ. The message describes the Christian journey as justification through Jesus, ongoing sanctification through the Holy Spirit, and eventual glorification when Christ returns and creation is restored. Ultimately, the Trinity reveals a God who does not remain distant but welcomes believers into relationship with Himself, offering grace, peace, salvation, transformation, and the hope of eternal life.
